Paragominas Bauxite Mine

The Paragominas Bauxite Mine was discovered in 1970 in the eastern part of Pará state in the Northern Brazil, and its operation and exploration were started by Vale S.A. The quality of Paragominas bauxite ore is equivalent to that of Trombetas bauxite ore.

Paragominas bauxite ore is transported to ALUNORTE by means of 240 km long slurry pipeline, which was the world’s first innovative bauxite ore transportation system.

Norwegian Norsk Hydro ASA acquired 60% of total shares of Paragominas from Vale S.A. in February, 2011. Subsequently, Norsk Hydro ASA increased gradually its stake in Paragominas, and acquired 100% of the equity of Paragominas in December, 2016.
